DescriptionThis envelope is marked "First Day of Issue." It commemorates the newly issued stamp in honor of horse racing and the one-hundredth running of the Kentucky Derby. The envelope was postmarked in Louisville on Derby Day. The envelope bears an engraved image of Churchill Downs, the track which hosted the Derby, during a race. The yellow U.S. postage stamp also depicts a horse race. The stamp's face value was ten cents.
