Aug. 1, 1950 Dear Mrs. Burns, I received your letter and money orders this morning and I want to thank you. Chad's clothes are on the way by parcel post and his ring will be sent out in the morning. I had the extra money left over since one of the cleaners gave me some of his clothes free of charge so I paid the postage on every thing and I still have five dollars left which I'll send by money order as soon as I get the chance. I insured everything so don't worry about that part of it. Chad didn't volunteer. It all happened so fast he wouldn't have had the chance if he had wanted to. His name was on the draft from Washington so he had no alternative. When he reached Pendleton he joined the first division which was sailing for Tokyo. As you've probably heard on the radio by now the first division landed in Korea today. Chad's classification is the same as mine. He is a lineman or in other words just an infantry man with
