Description	Journal of William B. Northcutt, which begins with an autobiographical account of his life up to the War of 1812. The bulk of the diary, 1812-1813, depicts his time in Captain Garrard's Light-Dragoons, detailing his equipment, accommodations, daily army life, marches, battles, commanders, the Indians, the British, and fellow soldiers. Northcutt also provides details and commentary on distilling whiskey; agriculture; social, political, and economic conventions; daily domestic life; slaves and slavery; weather; livestock and illnesses. Northcutt details how his family settled in Kentucky and provides information on family friends and acquaintances, court cases, and includes a family genealogy toward the end of the volume. Also included is a partial index.
